Lowe Law Group provides experienced representation to injured clients. We believe pharmaceutical companies must be held responsible for manufacturing and marketing products that are dangerous. Invokana, a drug used to treat type 2 diabetes, is one such product. It has received a black box warning by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), which is the most severe type of safety advisory the agency issues. If you have suffered harm from using Invokana or another dangerous drug, our Invokana lawyers will analyze your options and help you pursue justice either through a personal lawsuit or a mass tort claim.
Understanding the Dangers of Invokana
As mentioned above, Invokana is a drug used to treat type 2 diabetes. Its only ingredient is canagliflozin. It decreases glucose levels in the blood by increasing the amount of glucose lost in the urine, and it prevents glucose from being reabsorbed into the bloodstream once it passes through the kidneys. Some symptoms of Invokana result in mild discomfort. These include rashes, dizziness, and yeast infections. However, some side effects are more serious, and may even be fatal.
Invokana causes a variety of severe side effects, such as:
- Pancreatitis
- Bone fractures
- Kidney damage
- Ketoacidosis
Invokana has also been linked to toe, foot, and leg amputations. A series of clinical studies found that using Invokana may double your risk of amputation. These findings prompted the FDA to issue a black box warning about this drug in May, 2017. Manufacturers are required to provide clear warning of the risk of amputation and other side effects. Those with a history of foot ulcers, neuropathy, peripheral vascular disease, and previous amputations may be at high risk of serious side effects.
Johnson & Johnson is the pharmaceutical company responsible for manufacturing and marketing this dangerous drug. We will help you file a lawsuit to seek compensation. Depending on the situation, you may be entitled to a settlement for medical bills, loss of earning potential, lost wages, pain and suffering, emotional distress, loss of enjoyment of life, and other damages.
