One of those things is requesting a recorded statement from your regarding the accident and how it occurred.

While you may think this is a completely normal thing—and it is a regular occurrence—there is a reason the insurance company wants this. They want it to benefit themselves, not necessarily to get a fair assessment of the accident.

Why Does the Insurance Company Want a Recorded Statement?

When the accident first occurs, you most likely report it to the local authorities and file a claim with your insurance provider. This is your initial statement. However, the insurance company may contact you days after the accident to request a recorded statement.

They are hoping that you say something that would contradict your initial statement or that they could use to turn the premise of fault onto you. It’s important you understand that this statement can be used against you—not in your favor.

What Can You Do?
