Ten Worst Cars for Personal Injury Insurance Claims

Topics in this post

One of the most frustrating consequences of a car accident is trying to get your personal injury insurance claims. There is paperwork, phone calls, and your pressured to make and record statements. It can all be overwhelming. Aside from hiring a personal injury attorney to make sure you are begin compensated appropriately, you should also consider the top ten cars that are considered the worst for insurance losses.

The list, which was released in October by the Highway Loss Data Institute, was the result of analysis from 2012 to 2014 model year vehicles according to how personal injury protection insurance claims were filed.

Such claims insure against expenses for injuries in crashes with insure drivers and their passengers, regardless of who was at fault.

Cars with higher than average personal injury protection claims tend to have lower horsepower and are “overwhelmingly smaller cars,” said Matt Moore, the vice president of HLDI.

“It’s simply representative of the fact that when cars crash, they typically crash with other vehicles,” Moore said. “When you’re smaller than average, the laws of physics take effect and the vehicle is more likely to sustain more damage and therefore the occupants would be subject to higher injury risk.”

Counterintuitively, the vehicles who score well for personal injury protection insurance losses are high-performance vehicles which aren’t typically driven daily. So what are the top 10 cars that score the lowest for personal injury protection claims?

  1. Mitsubishi Mirage
  2. Dodge Avenger
  3. Nissan Versa
  4. KIA Forte
  5. Mitsubishi Lancer
  6. Nissan Rogue
  7. Chrysler 200
  8. Nissan Cube
  9. KIA Rio
  10. Nissan Versa Note
