After an accident, you’re going to feel disoriented and stressed. You might be in significant pain.

A legal claim is probably the last thing you’re thinking about.

The most important thing is to get medical attention. Take care of yourself and your loved ones.

The second most important thing is to contact a skilled attorney. The sooner we’re involved, the better we can protect your right to compensation.

If you are not in immediate danger and have the chance to take action at the scene, here’s what we recommend.

5 Things To Do After an Accident

1

Get Medical Attention Immediately. Call 911 for emergencies or see a doctor as soon as
possible to create medical records. Even if it’s “not that bad,” get examined. Injuries to your head or spine might not display symptoms for days or weeks. The longer you wait, the more likely insurance is to claim that the accident did not cause your injuries.

2

Report the Accident. Call the police to report the accident, and notify other appropriate
parties, such as your employer or the property owner, depending on the type of injury. The
official reports may be important for insurance claims and legal purposes. Ensure that police
document the scene and collect information from involved parties and witnesses.

3

Document the Incident Yourself. Take photos of the scene, your injuries, and any property
damage. Write down the time, location, and details of what happened while it’s fresh in your memory.

4

Exchange Information: Get names, addresses, phone numbers, insurance cards, license plates, and government-issued IDs for all parties involved. Get names and contact information for witnesses as well. Keep copies of any correspondence.

5

Document Impacts & Expenses. Write down your physical and emotional symptoms. Note missed days of work and other disruptions to your livelihood and quality of life. Keep records of all expenses related to the incident, including your medical bills.

5 Things NOT to Do

1

Do NOT admit fault. Avoid making any statement that could be interpreted as an
admission of guilt. Stick to the facts when speaking with police, witnesses, and other parties.

2

Do NOT contact insurance UNTIL you have a lawyer. If you file a claim with insurance, you may say something that prevents you from being compensated. To protect your rights,
get a case evaluation first.

3

Do NOT throw away anything. Keep all damaged property including clothing and equipment. It might be used as evidence.

4

Do NOT “tough it out.” Your pain may get worse, or it may not go away. Follow the doctor’s
treatment plan, go to follow-up appointments, and go back for further evaluation if you’re not
getting better.

5

Do NOT post on social media. Talking about the case publicly, on social media or elsewhere,
could harm your claim.

Protect Your Rights

Sometimes, there’s no space to think about claims and compensation following an accident.
Again, your health and safety comes first.

If you want a case evaluation or help navigating the aftermath of the accident, get in touch.
Our team will recommend next steps, and if you’re ready, we’ll jump into action.

Marisa Reed and Xakai Harry have been amazing I was in a hit and run accident - ok had the license plate number and description of the vehicle, but he denied it and kept denying it, and his insurance company stuck behind him. Marissa didn’t let them bully her at all she pushed and pushed and pushed. They got the maximum for me that his insurance carried they deserve raises or promotions or something wonderful because they are wonderful.
